City Mayor Benhur Abalos receives the 2015 Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance conferred by the Council for the Welfare of Children in fitting ceremonies held recently at the WackWack Golf and Country Club.

The seal honors deserving local government units in sustaining the need to protect children’s rights as well as create a child-sensitive and child-friendly community.

Prior years, Mandaluyong was a back-to-back winner of the Presidential Award for the Most Child-Friendly City in the Highly Urbanized City category for the National Capital Region and in the Philippines awarded by President Benigno Aquino III in 2011.

Along these awards, the city received from the National Nutrition Council the Green Banner Award in 2010, 2011 & 2012 and the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) in 2013 earning the city’s 1st& 2nd Year CROWN Maintenance Award in 2014 and 2015.

Mayor Benhur Abalos holds the Rafael M. Salas Population & Development Award recently given by the Commission on Population-National Capital Region during its commemorative program on World Population Day held at the Century Park Hotel, Manila.

Mandaluyong bested six other local government units in the NCR for its people-centered governance and innovative development initiatives.

PopCom started the award in 1990 to perpetuate the legacy of the first head of the United Nations Population Fund, Rafael M. Salas, in achieving a better world for generation after generation.
