Winners of the “Lola Ganda and Lolo Makisig” contest were presented by the Mandaluyong City Federation of Senior Citizens Associations and the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs during the recently concluded Monday Morning Program.

The couple Fe Esperanza and Antonio Carlos from Brgy. Hagdan Bato Itaas emerged as champions; Dory Laqui and Edgardo Vidal of Brgy. Highway Hills-1st runners-up; Angelina Sy and Sulpicio Sabino of Brgy. Malamig-2nd runners-up, Anita Murillo and Virgilio Ingreso of Brgy. San Jose-3rd runners-up; Remedios Pablo and Neonito Lazo Sr. of Addition Hills-4th runners-up.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. leads in the observance of the Lenten season by supporting the various religious organizations of the city that will conduct the traditional “Senakulo”.

In the recently-concluded Monday Morning Program of the city, different dramatic presentations of the passion of Christ were showcased: “Tinik” by Teatro Inulunsad ng Isla Kabataan Brgy. Mauway; “Hesus Nazareno” by Tanghalan Mandaluyong Brgy. Hulo; and “Pasan Ng Krus” by Kapisanang Barangay of Brgy. Burol.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos leads in introducing Cream Dory fish (Pangasius Fish) during a livelihood seminar yesterday participated by indigents at Barangay Plainview.

Invited chef Cheeky Violago taught participants how to prepare, fillet and cook the said fish which is becoming a hit in high-end restaurants and markets in the metro.

President Benigno C. Aquino III graced the turn-over ceremony of the electric tricycles (e-Trikes) held recently at the Mandaluyong city hall grounds. The city, through the initiative of Mayor Benjamin C. Abalos, is the first to launch 20 e-Trikes that will soon ply on selected routes in the city through a $110,000.00-grant from the Asian Development Bank. The units run on virtually 100 percent clean energy.

 

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos observes Department of Health volunteers during a symbolic vaccination of children from Barangay Addition Hills.

The activity yesterday (April 4) starts the month-long Iwas-Tigdas national program which aims to eradicate measles by giving free vaccine to children between nine months to below eight years old.

The local government expects to vaccinate 64,000 eligible children in the whole City.
