Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. signs the Memorandum of Agreement with the Rizal Technological University for the City of Mandaluyong Collegiate Scholars (CMCS) during the recentregular Monday morning program of the city. The CMCS Agreement ensures that qualified students are able to obtain their respective college degrees at partner school, Rizal Technological University. For SY 2012-2013, almost 300 students qualified as scholars after undergoing rigid interviews and examinations of the CMCS office. The CMCS has benefited thousands of students since its implementation in 1996. Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos leads in the distribution of free school supplies, including bags and notebooks to public school students during ceremonies held at the City Hall highlighting the “BalikEskwela” program. There are an estimated 3,000 kindergarten, 30,000 elementary and 19,000 high school incoming students in 21 different public schools in the city for school year 2012-2013. Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos shows the first level of the 3-storey building that houses the new public market that consists of 204 stalls for wet and dry sections.

The public market, constructed with the initiative of Mayor Abalos, is the response of the city government to the pressing problem of ambulant vendors in that area, securing an economic stability for these “entrepreneurs.”
